What happens when you fuse primitive sculpture with 3D printing? You get “The Afrobots of Futures Past” from visual artist Lans King.
Lans' latest works considers both the origins and future of art by merging primitive and hi-tech elements. The contrast of natural materials and the metallic forms produced with the latest 3D printers is impressive both visually and conceptually. It’s his way of questioning the state of humanity, our relationship with technology and where this relationship is going.
He began with West African woodwork but is also experimenting with techniques from ancient cultures such as Qin Dynasty terracotta moulding and Pre-columbian stone carving.
